Frozenfields – Ghostwave Romance (27-10-2013)

The concept here is that of a ghost being in love with a living person and vice versa. Supernatural creatures are fundamentally unrelatable, which becomes tangibly given, in the way the night air made of fine needle points might be given, if they try to rejoin the world of the living, so to me this concept — and possibly this concept alone — expresses nearly complete loneliness. I don’t even know how else to talk about unrelatability and how crushing it is.
This clip is a perfect illustration of the idea that there’s a line that’s not meant to be crossed, that there are mundane actions that can’t be done without bleeding, and that the experience of unrelatability shares a starkly ruthless quality with the experience of physical pain.

Frozenfields – White Lodge Requiem (30-09-2013)

The idea I worked with was simple: it’s the experience of having caught glimpse of something radiantly beautiful and losing it. This is also the kind of concept that cannot be dissociated from that of grief and mocking insanity. Because there’s that moment of mind-fracturing uncanniness when you feel that the White Lodge is about to become its opposite. It’s the moment when the beautiful music slows down, becomes distorted, and downright menacing. This is similar to a cinematic device where a certain scene appears as welcoming and enchanting—until the lighting changes and you suddenly see how dreary it really is and has been all along.

Of course I also want to think that it is the image—or the promise—that guided Laura through the blackest woods and the heaviest narcotic daze.

Pain is not incommunicable, that’s just… man, whatever. The way in which it affects one’s thought processes, emotions, attachments, and actions is only too visible, too harrowing to forget. We may not be able to look at the fire, but its path lies right before us.

“A poem as lovely as a tree: As the night wind blows, the boughs move to and fro. The rustling, the magic rustling that brings on the dark dream. The dream of suffering and pain. Pain for the victim, pain for the inflicter of pain. A circle of pain, a circle of suffering.”

Another tribute to the unfailingly complex girl, Laura, who was denied the time of love because of her entrapment in the space of the darkest, bleakest, and ultimately deadliest woods. These are the woods without time, unless grief is acknowledged as its only possible, forever lasting echo.
