[SOP 033-1317] Symbolic Death – Negative Leader

After a track on Dancefloor Killer and remixes for Antistatic and Kallkรคllan itโ€™s time for French producer Symbolic Deathโ€™s solo release: Five tracks in glistening production value offering some nice and welcome variation.
While โ€žSuzeโ€œ can be considered the industrial techno peak time centerpiece of the EP, the rest works with some different aspects โ€“ a coherent fusion of doom and acid (โ€žNegative Leaderโ€œ), a stampede of crossover rhythmic noises (โ€žComboโ€œ), trickling space atmospheres (โ€žTspark 11โ€œ) and a buildup with melodic grandeur (Sagaโ€œ).

[SOP 026-1314] Threatening Developments – Das Treibgut Der Geschichte

New German talent Threatening Developments presents his 2nd release which takes its clues from the classic PCP sound but appears very roomy and modern. โ€œDas Treibgut der Geschichteโ€ (the flotsam of history) is midtempo techno with lots of atmosphere; the Scandinavian track titles evoke adequate images of glaciers and snow-covered wind-swept landscapes. Historical awareness is implied in the title, and really this draws from generations of techno music, starting with new beat and going all the way to the Berghain sound. An inbred melancholia is omnipresent in this music, far from headstrong though, a very enjoyable and physical experience with pulses and compulsive beats closing in on you. Float with it!

Unbelievable but true, this is the very first release ever by this producer from Argentina, featuring four strong techno tracks with an industrial austerity and oppressive atmosphere. The title track takes its time with a rolling groove before launching an eerie sound signal, โ€œMartyrโ€ assaults with tribal contortion, โ€œMentally Aggressiveโ€ is fuzzy and aggro on the bass and โ€œSuffocationโ€ should do the dance floors for good with its screeching leitmotif.
